April 14th, 03

The count is now three:

The Bush administration does not care.. two American citizens were shot deliberately, but it does not matter because they should not have been there in the first place. A British was also shot, but no one cares. We see cartoons making fun of them, and emails cursing them for their 'st-oo-pidity'. How could they stand in front of a bulldozer, or protect a child being shot at by a sniper? The 'natural' reaction is to cower and to look the other way, because there is a 'higher calling', a prophecy - or is it a political plan? - that says that these people should be killed and the Zionists, Bush's chosen people, have to take their homes and land. It is, he says, in the Bible he reads and he hears it from the God he prays to every morning at the White House.

What is a child shot? Ah.. but not any child of course: it is a Palestinian child. Have we become desensitized that it is not news at all that 20 children were killed when settlers threw a grenade in their school this week? Why should that make the news? Aren't Palestinian 'terrorists' killed everyday? Why is that any different?

And now, what is another International Solidarity activist shot? It is becoming common, and will not make news any more. Do remember of course that there are investigations. Bush's administration has learnt very well from its 'ally' Israel. They shoot, kill, and then say they will investigate. And then it is gone.

But Brian and Tom.. I am once again speechless but for the words of Jesus:

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."" John 15:13

Yebna, Rafah

Here is the eyewitness account:

"The activists were being shot at while protecting some children from Israeli gunfire. Tom was in plain view of the sniper towers and was wearing a bright orange fluorescent jacket with reflective stripes. The nine ISM activists and many children were in the process of leaving the area. Sniper fire from the tower was hitting the wall close beside the children, who were afraid to move. Tom was attempting to bring them to safety when he was shot. There was no shooting or resistance coming from the Palestinian side at all."

And...

"Tom saw a little boy in an open space, clearly visible to the tower. Tom went to get him out of the way. He looked back and saw two more girls whom he also went to retrieve. As he went to get them, he was shot in the back of the head. He fell to the ground in a pool of blood. The ambulance arrived quickly, after about two minutes."

Israeli Soldiers Shot Tom Hurndall, 22, a British ISM Activist while he was protecting children in Rafah from Israeli gunfire on 10 April. Tom was hit in the head by sniper fire. His condition is listed as critical. His mother asks the Israelis: was my son shot deliberately? Read more on ISM's site..

Brian Avery, 23, US ISM activist shot in the face by Israeli Forces in Jenin on 5 Apr. Brian is still in hospital in Haifa. He has suffered sever damage to his face and will have to undergo extensive reconstructive surgery. Read more on ISM's site...
